Chiang Mai

We only spent one night in Ayuthaya, then jumped on a night bus for Chiang Mai. On the way, we stopped at what is best described as an outdoor cafeteria where we received a free meal. It consisted of a tiny plate of shrimp and a bowl of rice soup. My mouth burns just thinking about it.

We had arranged to spend 2 nights in Chiang Mai, then go on a 3 day hiking trek in the mountains of northern Thailand. In Chiang Mai, we did a lot of shopping. Northern Thailand has incredible textiles and handicrafts. All the markets and vendors are a bit overwhelming, but we know how to kick back and fight the consumerism with a different sort of consumerism (Singha Lager).

We also arranged a ride up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is a temple complex built on a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. There are over 300 steps to the top.

Darcy made friends with a cat sprawled out in the sun at the top. It's a tough life.

The next morning, we will leave on our 3 day trek in the mountains. I'm excited to get back to nature.
