Doing Nothing in Pai

Early in the morning, after the Chiang Mai trekking aftermath, we hopped (stumbled really) on a minibus to Pai. The trip to Pai is 5 hours of twisty, mountainous roads. We later learned that there are over 700 curves on the road from Chiang Mai to Pai. I was in no state to deal with the curves, but we made it without incident.

Pai is a small village in a valley, surrounded by mountains. Since the 70’s it has become a sort of hippy hangout in northern Thailand. The streets are filled with shops, restaurants, cafes, and vendors. As we entered the city, we saw a t-shirt shop with slogans like “Do Nothing in Pai” and “Bangkok = :(, Chiang Mai = :|, Pai = :)”. This sounds like exactly what we need.

We spent our time in Pai just wandering the streets. There is a lot to do in the hills around Pai, but we took the advice from the t-shirt and did nothing…Well, except for shopping, eating, and getting massages. Darcy was in heaven with all the handicrafts, and she really dug the whole laid-back hippy vibe.

The most excitement in Pai was probably watching a cat and two dogs play in a bar where we were having a drink.

Life in Pai is good! And not in a "Life Is Good" [trademark] kind of way ;)

Life is Good is becoming so engrained in your thinking that you accidentally reference it in your comments - nice try, but it is too late to take it back.

The brainwashing must have worked. Are you actually a Life is Good rep? You're just trying to get me to buy some t-shirts, aren't you?
