I've already learned something very important on my trip: The cheapest airfare isn't always the best airfare.
When I was researching tickets to Amsterdam 6 months ago, I was disappointed that the prices were so high. But, through my excellent research, I discovered that if we booked a flight from Mpls to Manchester UK, then a separate flight from Manchester to Amsterdam, the total cost would be slightly cheaper. So I went ahead and booked the cheaper flights. The flights were suppose to go like this:
Leg 1 (United):
-Mpls to Chicago
-Chicago to Manchester
Leg 2 (KLM):
-Manchester to Amsterdam
Well, after a 2 hour delay in Mpls, we missed our connecting flight to Manchester. United was able to get us on a later flight from Chicago to London, then another flight from London to Manchester. That is all great, but now we've missed our flight from Manchester to Amsterdam, and since that flight was booked separately, they don't really care about the delay we had in Mpls.
So here we are, currently in London, waiting for our Manchester flight. Hopefully we can still make it to Amsterdam tonight, but we've already lost a day. Next time I am just going to book a direct flight and pay a little more.
Oh, and I really didn't pay the $6 just to write this post. I had to email the hostel we are suppose to stay at tonight to let them know we may not make it.
I guess we made it to London after all.
