We woke up, got ready, and ate our hotel breakfast. Most of our breakfasts have consisted of coffee and a roll and/or croissant with butter and jelly. I might try that kind of breakfast back home. It is quite good.
After breakfast, we walked through the city toward the Mediterranean. Before coming to the sea, we came across a large public park with palm trees, exotic plants, fountains, sculpture, and a carousel. It was an enjoyable place.

It was cloudy and looked like rain most of the day so there weren’t many people out on the beach. We spent some time watching the waves break and walking in the surf. It is amazing how powerful the sea is.

After hanging out on the beach, we walked down Nice’s large promenade toward the old city center. We came across a large market where there was fresh fruit, flowers, bread, and fresh fish available.
Next, we walked through the pedestrian-only city center. It was lined with shops. We stopped at a place that makes smoothies from fresh fruit. Very refreshing!

I forgot to mention that we tried to reserve our next train trip that morning. Our plan was to pass through Milan and go up to Interlaken, Switzerland. Everything was booked for the next two days, so we decided to reserve seats on a train to Venice the next day instead.
We ate a lunch consisting of fruit and bread from the market, then bought a couple large cans of bière and drank them down at the beach. I highly recommend this as a way to spend the afternoon.

On the beach, there were couples making out, hippies smoking pot, asian men taking pictures, and Darcy and me drinking bière and throwing rocks.

We went back toward the hotel and decided to stop at an Internet café to take care of our business. We have had such trouble finding free WiFi that I am going to pay for Internet access from now on. This particular café was filled with a bunch of sweaty teenagers playing some first-person shooter game online. I decided to turn on my firewall. Є3.50 later, we had all our pictures uploaded and several blog posts completed. Well worth it, even with the teenagers.

That evening, we had dinner at a sidewalk café. I had lemon-peppered trout and Darcy had a basil ravioli. It was delicious and the atmosphere was great! It started to rain and we could hear a light pattering of raindrops on the umbrella above our heads. Very nice!

We went back to the room early and ate the nuts and drank the wine that were suppose to be in the care package we couldn’t send. Sorry Duane and Mary Kay! The wine wasn’t that great anyway.
